Earrings for Palestine

🍉Watermelon earrings for Palestine 🍉 The proceeds from these earrings will be going to Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA).

The use of the watermelon as a Palestinian symbol started in 1967 after the 6 Days War, when the Israeli government made the public display of the Palestinian flag a criminal offense in Gaza and the West Bank. To get around this ban, people help up slices of watermelon and pictures of watermelon, because when cut open they display the colors of the Palestinian flag, red, green, black, and white. The band was lifted in 1993, but the watermelon is still a symbol of Palestinian resistance. 

The earrings are made of red clay and decorated with white slip and colored underglaze. They have hypoallergenic stainless steel earring hooks. "Ceasefire Now" and "Free Palestine" are painted on the back of the earrings in white.
